So who’s ready for bathing suit season? The weather is starting to warm up and many of us are putting away those sweaters and jeans and taking out the shorts and tanks. Have you ever had one of those spring moments where you put on your shorts for the first time in months and say to yourself…”what happened to my body? I don’t remember this spare tire or having this much behind”. Well, that’s because we’ve been covering it up with jeans and big sweaters for months. Out of sight, out of mind, right? There’s still time to get you body in shape for summer.

Start by setting a couple of specific goals for yourself. Instead of saying “this week I’m going to cook healthier meals” say…”this week I’m going to prepare three meals with less meat and more vegetables.” If you love soft drinks, instead of saying “I won’t drink as many regular soft drinks this week”, put a specific number on it, and lower that number the following week. Post your weekly goals each Monday on your refrigerator and evaluate your accomplishments on the following Sunday.

Keeping a food journal is always helpful. Whether it’s a little notepad you keep with your phone or one of those dry erase note boards that you hang on your refrigerator, recording your eating habits will help you determine what may be keeping you from losing weight. When you see something on paper it often makes more sense. How many of you can remember everything you ate yesterday? Not only that, how big were the portions and what time of day did you eat? Or how long did you go without eating? All of these can factor in to a larger behind. And who wants that?
