He's the penny pinching guru whose money saving advice has led people to financial security. But he doesn't stop there. He's also made it his mission to rescue consumers from the rip off artists and scammers. I spoke with Consumer Warrior Clark Howard about fad diet scams on my podcast this week.
There's always a new fad diet with the promise of that elusive magic weight loss bullet. If there was such a breakthrough, do you think two-thirds of Americans would be overweight? Yo-yo dieters that can't seem to get the results they want are often the prey of the latest and supposedly greatest fad diet. They will try anything new in hopes of losing the weight they want. The weight loss ads make all kinds of promises for large amounts of weight loss and a perfect new body.
The big issue I have with fad diets is that today nutrition and weight loss are personalized, not a one size fits all. Plus most fad diets do not help you change your habits. They just promise weight loss usually thru deprivation and very low calories along with some types of pills, drinks or supplements. Then you gain the weight right back when you return to your old ways. I bet you can tell me your own personal story about many of these fad diets.
Clark talks about what to watch out for when you see these “lose weight quick” ads. He tells you what questions to ask before handing over money and we address the diet products that are labeled ‘all natural”.
Don't get scammed by the latest fad diet. Use your money to buy real food and cut your portions. The secret to weight loss is cutting back on portions and increasing how much you move. No pill, powder, drink, enema or shake will do that for you. Be sure and check out Clark's website . It's your source for consumer information.
